Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and that means one thing: friends and family coming together and lots of delicious holiday food. What if your table is a little too crowded to make space for all of that, though?

Don’t worry – you’re not alone. Many people want to declutter their homes before the holiday madness sets in, and our convenient checklist is exactly what you need to get the job done quickly and easily.

Let’s dive in.

4 Steps to Declutter Room by Room

Make the decluttering process as efficient as possible by tackling the job room by room. Start in the rooms you’ll use most during the holidays, and branch out from there:

Step 1: The Kitchen

The kitchen is where everyone congregates during a gathering. It’s also where you store and layout food in preparation for the big feast. Make more room by focusing on these problem areas:

The countertops. Get rid of anything unnecessary. Give away appliances you never use and store items that aren’t seasonally appropriate, like that ice cream maker.

The refrigerator. Get into the habit of cleaning out your refrigerator right before you go shopping for groceries each week. Toss anything that’s past its prime, combine like items, and make a plan to use leftovers.

The pantry. A quick once-over in the pantry will free up lots of available space. Get rid of expired food, combine like items, and pull out anything you intend to use for your holiday dinner.

Step 2: The Dining Table

Make space for your guests by preparing the dining table. If you use your dining table as a storage space for mail and other miscellaneous household items, go through it pile by pile.

Throw away junk, and delegate things like bills and paperwork to a more appropriate room, like the office.

Step 3: The Living Room

Once guests finish dinner, they’ll want to relax in the living room. Make room for that phase of the evening by getting rid of clutter that’s cutting off sitting or traffic areas, and tossing, donating, or relocating junk that’s built up on the coffee table or in storage bins. Rearrange furniture, if needed, to create better conversational groupings.

Step 4: Guest Rooms

If you have guests staying at the house, attack the guest rooms, as well. Give away stored clothing and items that you no longer use, throw away the trash, and donate junk you no longer need.

A Junk-Free Home for the Holidays

As you attack your various decluttering zones, set aside items to donate or toss. Once you finish the process, contact your local junk removal expert to pick up the items you no longer need.

The Nixxit team will take the time to properly sort your items and either take them to a local donation center, give them to a family in need, or make sure everything is properly recycled and disposed of. We offer same-day service and can help you get your home ready to host the holiday. Ready to learn more? Contact our team today to schedule a pick-up or get a quick quote!
